Only €200m state assistance for March instead of planned €500m

The government planned to provide €500m in assistance to individuals and companies for March, but the reality is under €200m, and half of this is deferred income tax. Compared to the government’s estimates, fewer people stayed home taking care of their children (65,000 vs 300,000) and received sickness allowance, and fewer companies and sole traders requested employment subsidies (€60m vs €120m). The Labor Ministry has only paid €101m so far in “corona assistance”. Finance Minister Eduard Heger (OĽaNO) expects the assistance will jump to €1.2bn for April, but this seems unrealistic.
