Maker of horalka hopes to withstand the pandemic

26.03.2020

Confectionery and biscuit maker I.D.C. Holding (Pavol Jakubec and Štefan Kassay; brands such as Horalka, Mila, Figaro and Verbena) had €114m sales and net profit of €7.1m in 2018 and was successful last year, too. It hopes to withstand the current situation, as sugar and alcohol sales rise in times of crisis. During the 2009 recession, consumption of private-label sweets fell, while premium labels did well. The company is gradually relocating production to its Sereď plant, but is still keeping production in Trnava and in Cífer. It invests in automation and will gradually eliminate 50 jobs. Exports account for 55-60% of output, mainly to neighboring countries. Forays into Germany, Russia, China, and Croatia failed.
