U.S. Steel Košice reported $57m loss in 2019
The U.S. Steel Košice steel mill reported a 22% drop in raw steel production to 3.9m tons in 2019, as its capacity utilization fell to 78% from 100% in 2018. Its steel shipments fell 20% to 3.6m tons, as the price per ton fell 6% to $652. The steel mill posted a $57m loss, compared to a $359m profit in 2018. Its investments, though, rose to $153m from $104m in 2018. Last June, the steel mill paused one of its three blast furnaces and decided to cut its workforce by 2,500.
