Bratislava Volkswagen plant will pause production
The Bratislava Volkswagen plant will pause production for two days at the beginning of February, shortly after the Christmas 3-week production break, to cope with soft demand. It is not planning any dismissals, as last year, in a collective agreement, it pledged to keep jobs for five years. The plant called on the government to pay a part of the wages to workers staying home from unemployment insurance. This system, the so-called kurzarbeit, is working well in Germany, and helps keep employment when tough times hit.
