Ján Sabol suspended €180m investment

Enviral (Ján Sabol) suspended its €180m investment into technologies for the production of biofuels from waste straw. At present, it makes bio-additives from crops also used to make food. The decision comes after the project’s costs surged to €250m but is also due to uncertainty over new legislation forcing EU countries to use non-food bio-additives. Bio-additives currently account for 7% of diesel sold in Slovakia and 9% of petrol. Sabol’s plants in Leopoldov as well as in Czechia and Hungary make 215,000 cubic meters of bioethanol and 305,000 tons of biodiesel annually. Earlier, Sabol put on hold plans for a €400m bio-additive plant in Brazil.
