Health Minister Andrea Kalavská (Smer) offered to resign
Health Minister Andrea Kalavská (Smer) offered to resign after the government withdrew hospital reform, so-called stratification, from parliament on Wednesday. Despite the government’s approval, the reform did not have Smer’s backing, as it will lead to closing hospitals or their departments. Kalavská is disappointed as the reform’s aim was to provide higher quality care. She condemned Smer leader Robert Fico who repeatedly disparaged her. PM Peter Pellegrini indicated he would not accept her resignation.
Parliament also turned down a revision allowing only vaccinated children to attend kindergartens. The reason for this is unclear. The extremist party ĽSNS, a potential coalition partner of Smer, has been fighting vaccination for some time.
