EU unhappy about support given to local food companies
The European Commission (EC) called on Slovakia to remove the provision obliging retailers to include at least 50% of Slovak products in their promotional leaflets from the Food Act, according to sources of the HN daily. Agriculture Minister Gabriela Matečná (SNS) pushed the condition as of May 1. The EC says the condition restricts the free movement of goods and services and violates single market rules. Retailers challenged the condition in courts as well as with the EC.
