A group led by Ján Sabol aims to acquire drug maker Saneca Hlohovec from the Czecho-Slovak investment group Wood & Company. It already owns 11% and wants to have a majority stake shortly. Sabol is a major investor in Wood & Company’s investment funds. Not far from Hlohovec, in Leopoldov, it has plants for fuel bio-additives with annual sales of over €500m. Sabol’s farms supply poppy seeds for Saneca’s morphine production. Saneca has been breaking even in recent years and its annual sales have fallen to €50m. It plans a €20m investment in which Sabol’s financial muscle comes in handy.
