The Slovak U.S. Steel plant in trouble

The Košice-based steel mill U.S. Steel has offered its workers an unpaid leave of absence for the second half of April, due to challenging conditions on the global steel market. Its labor union declared a strike alert after nine rounds of talks did not produce an agreement on a wage hike. Last year, it paid an average wage of €1,876.
