Slovakia will ban single-use plastic products as of January 2021

Slovakia will ban single-use plastic products as of January 2021, said Environment Minister László Sólymos (Most-Híd). He will propose the respective legislation this fall. The ban will apply to plastic plates, cutlery, drink mixers, straws, balloon sticks, cotton buds, food containers, and two kinds of glasses. The ban is in line with EU regulation and Slovakia will adopt it six months ahead of the EU-imposed deadline. Sólymos also tries to push through a deposit-return scheme for PET bottles and cans.
