SE will again delay Mochovce completion
Slovenské elektrárne (SE) will again delay the completion of the 3rd bloc of the Mochovce nuclear power plant and will demand an increase in the completion budget, says Branislav Strýček, SE’s CEO. He will provide details on April 12. The current plan is for completion to cost €5.4bn and for the 3rd bloc to launch power production in June. SE blames the delay and cost overrun on Austrian activists and the departure of Strabag, the key supplier of construction work, last summer. Global 2000, an Austrian NGO, points at manifold security risks in Mochovce’s completion, and its objections will slow down the approval process. The 3rd bloc has just undergone a so-called hot hydrotest (imitation of real operations, only without nuclear fuel). Due to technical glitches, the test took 80 days instead of the planned 39.
