Ikea of Sweden plans to increase the chipboard output of its furniture plant in Malacky by 20%, to 450,000 cubic meters annually. The increase won’t require any new technologies, but the existing ones will be used more efficiently. Since 2016 the plant has had its own plantation of fast-growing trees that will cover 25-30% of the plant’s wood needs in five years. The plant also makes bathroom furniture and is among the best performing in the Ikea group. Its aspiration is to build furniture so that the first human hand touching it is the customer’s.
Ikea is the largest furniture maker in Slovakia. In addition to Malacky, it has plants in Trnava and near Liptovský Mikuláš. Their annual sales top €200m.
