China has stopped using Slovakia for rail transit

Since September 2018, China has stopped using Slovakia for rail transit. When presenting its Belt & Road Initiative (new Silk Road) in November 2017, it had planned on 500 trains via Slovakia for 2018. The reality was just 123 trains (in total, 6,363 trains traveled from China to Europe last year). Slovakia is a victim of the situation in Ukraine, as reliability of rail traffic suffers due to the state of emergency in this country, due to its war with Russia. China therefore opts for longer route via Belarus and Poland and is using the reloading facility in Brest. The Slovak reloading facilities near Košice remain idle.
