Slovak economy upped its growth tempo last year to 4.1%

The Slovak economy upped its growth tempo last year to 4.1% from 3.2% in 2017, the 5th-highest pace in the EU. The economy slowed sharply from 4.6% in 3Q to 3.6% in 4Q, though, reported the statistics office ŠÚ. The slowdown came on the back of softer demand in Western Europe, as domestic demand and investments remained buoyant. The average wage in the economy came to €1,013, up 6.2% (nominally) or 3.6% (in real terms). Unemployment fell to 6.1%.

This year, economic growth will top 3% and will stay way above the EU average of just 1%.
