Schaeffler shedding jobs in Slovakia

German automotive supplier Schaeffler, which employs 10,000 people in Slovakia in two plants, laid off 25 people in its plant in Skalica due to slowing demand. The other plant in Kysucké Nové Mesto is similarly impacted. Both plants have frozen any hiring and expect to continue to shed 30 workers a month to the end of this year.

The Bratislava plant of Volkswagen will cut its workforce by 3,000 (from 14,000) this year. The Žilina plant of Kia Motors has just laid off 27 people.
