Revenues of the top Slovak football league fell 13% annually in 2017, to €42m, according to a study by Deloitte. Slovan Bratislava (€9.1m), MŠK Žilina (€8.9m) and AS Trenčín (€5.1m) led the league in revenues. As many as seven of the 12 clubs had revenues below €2.5m. The top league clubs’ combined revenues have been growing (they were just €29m in 2013) and will continue to grow, thanks to rising match attendance and growing player sales. Apart from Žilina and Trenčín, which have sizeable and relatively stable revenues from player sales, the clubs are financially dependent on their owners and are mostly in the red. MFK Ružomberok has been reporting the highest losses in recent years. Spartak Trnava is apparently heading towards financial collapse after the departure of its owner and largest sponsor, Vladimír Poór.
