Slovakia makes too many cars, says OECD
Slovakia makes too many cars, while the added value of the final car assembly is not that high, says José Ángel Gurría, OECD’s Secretary General. When the next economic downturn comes, Slovakia will suffer due to its dependence on the automotive sector. Slovakia is very successful in terms of economic growth, being the EU leader in this respect. Still, the open economy is very susceptible to falls in demands in export markets. Slovakia should work hard to improve the digital skills of its workers and their life-long education, and to increase the share of services on its economic output. OECD estimates a quarter of Slovak workers is digitally illiterate.
