Bratislava airport in the red despite record passanger numbers

The state-owned M.R. Štefánik airport in Bratislava served 2.3m passengers last year, an annual increase of 18% and a new all-time high. The number of flights rose 11%. The volume of freight cargo fell, though. The airport expects a €0.9m loss for 2018. It has invested €5m over the past three years. The government will provide €20m for investments in the coming years. The airport has been in the red since 2009 and suffers from a high debt burden. The government plans to find a strategic partner to lease the airport for 30 years.
