Kočner had Gorila in his safe

The police found wiretaps of the Gorila case in Marian Kočner’s safe. In 2005-06, Penta partner Jaroslav Haščák met with the then Economy Minister, FNM head, Robert Fico, and other officials in an apartment in Bratislava. By chance, the SIS intelligence agency recorded the conversations, which revealed corruption in privatization and deals with the state. The police have not filed charges in any of the cases, in part due to resistance by special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik and ex-Police Chief Tibor Gašpar.

SIS destroyed the original wiretaps, but still, their transcripts emerged in 2011 and helped Smer win the election and form a one-party government. Kočner did business with Ladislav Bašternák, who had business links to Robert Kaliňák and Ján Počiatek (Smer). Kočner has been in police custody for the past six months, which may have severed his links to Smer.
