Public broadcaster RTVS is government-friendly
Petra Stano Maťašovská, head of the radio news dept. at the public media RTVS, issued an internal memo ordering RTVS reporters to ignore proposals the opposition parties put forward in parliament. She also banned them from mentioning issues brought up by private media, as well as anti-government protests. The opposition parties are crying foul, saying the memo violates RTVS’ public charter and amounts to censorship. RTVS confirmed the memo, but says other media “misinterpreted it”.
The SNS-nominated RTVS CEO, Jaroslav Rezník, has changed news dept. management, forced many journalists out, and made news reports more government-friendly.
