Bakeries are again demanding higher prices
Slovak bakeries are again complaining about high costs and demanding higher prices. They have been doing so for several years now, but retailers have resisted price hikes by importing cheaper frozen bakery products. Now, bakeries point at increased pay for night and weekend work and higher flour prices. The minimum wage will increase again in 2019. Bakeries are demanding a 20% price hike that will allow them a minimum profit.
The Agriculture Ministry will shortly submit new legislation to prevent retailers from pushing for lower prices and bakeries from using lower quality ingredients. One of the measures will cut invoice due dates from 45 to 30 days for food producers and to 15 days for bakeries.
