Železnice SR wants to shell out €500m on 20 km rail track
The state-run rail infrastructure operator Železnice SR is planning an upgrade of the 20 km rail track between Liptovský Hrádok and Liptovský Mikuláš, with a price tag of €500m. The enormous sum reflects the fact that 14 km of the track will be built anew, to shorten travel time and streamline maintenance. All current level crossings will be replaced by flying junctions. The upgrade will be paid for by EU funds.
Železnice SR paid €2bn to upgrade the 200 km rail track between Bratislava and Žilina to speeds of 160 km/h.
