Smer yet to find a presidential candidate

Smer, Slovakia’s largest and most popular party, still has no presidential candidate. Its deputy leader, Richard Raši, still believes the party will persuade Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák to run. Lajčák, though, has repeatedly said he is not interested. After his one-year mandate to chair the UN’s General Assembly expired recently, he said he wants to stay in foreign affairs. He thinks the current ballot of over ten candidates is sufficient.

Betting agencies favor Robert Mistrík (an independent with support from the SaS and Spolu parties) in the April 2019 presidential election.
