Orange is investing massively into its TV business

Telecoms operator Orange is investing massively into its TV business to rival Slovak Telekom. At the end of 2017, Orange had only 51,000 clients for its paid TV and annual revenues of €1.7m. €. ST has 10-times the number of clients and 40-times the revenues. Orange therefore invested over €10m into the 3-year broadcasting rights for the football Champions League (until now the rights were owned by ST). It will offer HBO under favorable conditions. It is also expanding its optical network (currently it is available to 390,000 households, as opposed to ST’s 480,000), and will launch satellite TV and a digital app for smartphones this summer. The local Orange branch would also like to buy the Slovak assets of its competitor UPC, but this is up to the French HQ.
