PM Peter Pellegrini refused Marián Slobodník as a candidate for new Police Chief. He was put forward by Interior Minister Denisa Saková. Slobodník’s son-in-law does business with Ladislav Bašternák, charged with tax fraud. Both are shareholders of a loss-making outlet center in Voderady. Media also reported several cases where Slobodník settled the traffic offences of well-connected people.
This is the second time Pellegrini has stood up to the Fico-Kaliňák duo. First, he forced current Police Chief Tibor Gašpar to resign, and now he has turned down Kaliňák’s candidate. Fico still lives in an apartment he leases from Bašternák.
Saková was to present her candidate for Police Chief on Monday, but did not. Media are in the dark about her other preferred candidates.
