The cabinet approved a significant investment status for the Haniska industrial park 10 km from Košice on Friday. The cabinet is ready to expropriate 910 ha of land for an unspecified investor(s). This is a greater area compared to the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Nitra (700 ha). Economy Minister Peter Žiga (Smer) reckons he is in talks with five potential investors, mostly from Asia, whom he declined to identify. Media speculate the investors could be any of German car maker BMW, Chinese maker of electric vehicles Zhidou, or Chinese tire maker Linglong. Žiga wants to sign a contract with an investor at the end of this summer.
