Swan and Benestra are merging
After deliberating for seven months, the anti-trust authority PMÚ has approved the merger of telecoms operators Swan and Benestra. Their owners, local groups DanubiaTel (Ondriš brothers; they also own mobile phone operator 4ka) and Sandberg Capital (Martin Fedor), plan to create an operator able to offer services comparable to the three largest foreign-owned operators, Orange, Telekom, and O2. The operators are to merge as of the end of this year. Initial owners will each have a 50% stake. DanubiaTel will have managerial control, and Sandberg Capital will be a financial partner. The merged entity will invest into infrastructure – mainly into expanding its LTE network to provide fixed lines as a competition to DSL. The ownership change will not affect 4ka.
