Uber must change

The Bratislava I District Court ruled that Uber must change its business model in Slovakia. It must use taxis for transporting people, as well as licensed taxi drivers. The court accommodated a complaint filed by the local union of taxis. Uber must discontinue its Slovak app until it gets a taxi license.

At the end of last year, the EU Court of Justice ruled that Uber is a transport firm and not a shared economy platform and needs licenses for its operations. National governments should regulate its activities. Two weeks ago, it agreed with the Czech government that it would use only licensed taxi drivers in the country. The Slovak government has already indicated it will present a new regulatory framework in May.
