New Interior Minister

Peter Pellegrini wants to propose new cabinet members today, and parliament should hold a confidence vote on Wednesday. President Andrej Kiska indicated he would not appoint Pellegrini’s pick for Interior Minister without a guarantee of a thorough investigation into Kuciak’s murder. The Constitution gives Kiska the authority to deny Pellegrini the right to form a government. It seems likely Pellegrini would not nominate anyone with links to Kaliňák. Media say Smer’s candidates include Marián Saloň, currently deputy Defence Minister, František Imrecze, the president of the tax authority FS, and Bratislava regional police chief Csaba Faragó. Pellegrini said that the new minister should not be an absolute novice in politics, but also not a long-term party member. The SNS and Most-Híd parties would like Police President Tibor Gašpar to resign. Pellegrini said that will be up to the new Interior Minister.
