State rail carrier wastes money on old wagons
The state carrier ŽS Slovensko will pay €45m to repair 50 old wagons from the 1980s. The contract went to its traditional supplier, ŽOS Trnava of Vladimír Poór. Experts point out that given the high price of repairs, ŽS Slovensko might as well purchase new modern wagons. Private carrier RegioJet buys new wagons for €0.9m apiece, which is the same sum ŽS Slovensko now pays for the repair. ŽS Slovensko, though, pays €1.9-2m for a new wagon, saying its wagons are more reliable compared to RegioJet’s.
