Higher pay for night work approved

Parliament passed a revision to the Labor Code that introduces higher pay for weekend, night, and holiday work, as well as 13th and 14th salaries. The surcharge for night work will gradually increase to 40-50% of the minimum wage, but companies will be allowed to agree with labor unions (or employee representatives) on different levels of remuneration. Saturday work will carry a 50% of minimum wage surcharge, and Sunday work 100%. Workers will get double their average wage for working on holidays. Public sector employees will be entitled to the surcharges as well. The voluntary 13th and 14th wages will be exempt from payroll and income taxes, up to €500, if they top an employee’s average wage. Only workers staying with one firm at least 2-4 years will qualify.

The revision also obliges firms to publish wages in job ads.
