Fico wants to run for head of the Constitutional Court

PM Robert Fico is considering running for head of the Constitutional Court, say sources of the N daily. Fico tried to leave the government in 2014, when he ran for president. The term of the current court’s chairwoman, Ivetta Macejková, expires in February 2019. Next year, parliament will select 18 candidates for the court’s judges, and the ruling coalition can also nominate Fico. Then, President Andrej Kiska will appoint nine of the candidates, and will also select the future court’s chairman. Kiska would not say whether he would choose Fico.

Fico denied he would run for the court’s chairmanship, saying he focuses on winning the 2020 general election.
