Farmers are protesting a plan by Agriculture Minister Ján Mičovský
Farmers are protesting a plan by Agriculture Minister Ján Mičovský (OĽaNO) to redirect 15% of this year’s direct payments (€60m; the basic farming subsidy) towards subsidies for new projects. Even without this, direct payments would fall €57m this year as Slovakia has decided to stop moving money from project subsidies to direct payments. Initially, the direct payments were to be cut from last year’s €137 per hectare to €119, but Mičovský wants to reduce them to €98.

EU is flooding Slovakia with money but we are unable to spend it
Slovakia will get more money from the EU in 2021-27 compared to 2014-20. The money flow to Slovakia will be skewed towards the first years; i.e., as soon as possible after the pandemic. Of the €750bn package, Slovakia will get about €8bn. It remains to be seen whether we are able to spend the money, as Slovakia is the 2nd-worst in spending EU funds for 2014-20, with €4bn still on the table. (Valasek)
EÚ zaplavuje Slovensko peniazmi, my ich nevieme minúť
(Valasek)
