Approved cap on pension age will cut future pensions by 17%
The Smer and SNS parties, three MPs for Most-Híd, Sme rodina, ĽSNS and a group of independent MPs approved a constitutional amendment that caps the pension age at 64. Women will have their pension age reduced for every child. Parliament thereby abolished the most important reform of the first Robert Fico government, deteriorated the long-term sustainability of public finances, and cut future pensions by 17% (as calculated by the fiscal responsibility council RRZ). The current
Pellegrini will discuss the future of the Bratislava Volkswagen plant at VW HQ
PM Peter Pellegrini and Economy Minister Peter Žiga will discuss the future of the Bratislava Volkswagen plant at VW HQ in Germany today. The plant is reducing its workforce by 3,000 to 11,000 and has no replacement for three models of small cars, production of which will end in 2021. VW refuses to make electric cars in Bratislava. The plant could make the cars of Škoda, as the Czech Škoda plant can’t keep up with demand. The competitiveness of the Slovak industry suffered du
Pellegrini bude rokovať s vedením VW o budúcnosti bratislavského závodu
Premiér Peter Pellegrini a minister hospodárstva Peter Žiga dnes navštívia centrálu Volkswagenu a budú rokovať s vedením automobilky o budúcnosti bratislavského závodu.
€45m for land consolidation
The Agriculture Ministry is launching a €45m program of land consolidation, to be carried out throughout Slovakia for the first time since 2010. The process will result in better defined land plots and improved registration of ownership and lease deals. (sme.sk) The tender to carry out the land consolidation was won by the Tekdan (€15m), Progres CAD Engineering (€16m) and SGS Holding (€14m) companies. Their bids looked like a cartel, but their prices were below the market rat
€350m for roads and railways
The government approved moving €250m in EU funds from other uses to roads and railways. Later this year, the Transport Ministry wants to move another €100m in the same direction. The reallocation must be approved by the European Commission. Slovakia has not been able to spend EU funds for research or creative industries, but all funds for highways have already been allocated. Slovakia has so far spent 23% of EU funds for the 2014-20 period. Contracts have been signed for 56%
45 mil. € na pozemkové úpravy
Ministerstvo pôdohospodárstva spúšťa pozemkové úpravy za 45 mil. €. Cieľom je usporiadanie vlastníckych vzťahov k pozemkom a lepšia evidencia vlastníctva a nájmov. Tender na pozemkové úpravy vyhrali firmy Tekdan (15 mil. €), Progres CAD Engineering (16 mil. €) a SGS Holding (14 mil. €).
Online book store Martinus is the top brand among Slovaks
Online book store Martinus is the top brand among Slovaks, followed by Panta Rhei, Yves Rocher, Lidl, and RegioJet, according to a regular KPMG study on consumer experience. The overall consumer experience improved slightly this year compared to 2018. The most notable improvements were in entertainment, energy, and logistics. The only sector with an annual drop was financial services. It seems banks have great room for improving their services, yet Slovaks are rather reluctan
Economic growth slows down
The Slovak economy will expand by just 3.5% this year, forecasts the central bank NBS. Its previous forecast was 4.2% and last year, the economy rose 4.1%. This is the most pessimistic assessment of the economic outlook so far—bank analysts predict a 4.1% tempo and the Finance Ministry 4%. The NBS points at weak foreign demand, due to low growth in Germany. The production launch in the new Jaguar Land Rover car plant will also be slower. While employment and wage growth will
