Biomass power plants are still burning quality wood
Biomass power plants are still burning quality wood, say sources of the Trend weekly. At the end of last year, parliament approved legislation banning state subsidies for burning quality wood, to protect forests and reduce logging. The power plants are supposed to only burn wooden waste and plantation trees. There is a shortage of such wood on the market, though (or there are too many biomass power plants). The new legislation is ambiguous, checks rare, and fines low, so the
US and Russian products pose security risks, says Pellegrini
Slovakia has no information about the Chinese telecoms manufacturer Huawei posing a security threat, said PM Peter Pellegrini. He thinks information about the firm’s links to the Chinese government is a part of a trade war and sees potential security risks in US and Russian products, too. The USA accused Huawei of intellectual property theft and breaching US sanctions against Iran. Czechia has excluded the company from a tender for the supply of IT components for its tax auth
Americké a ruské výrobky predstavujú bezpečnostné riziko, tvrdí Pellegrini
Elektrárne už mali spaľovať iba drevený odpad a stromy z plantáží.
Bratislava plant of Volkswagen was forced to stop the production of SUV models
The Bratislava plant of Volkswagen was forced to stop the production of SUV models (Audi Q7 and Q8, VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne) following halted engine supplies from the Audi plant in Hungary, VW’s largest engine maker. It is unclear when production will resume. Workers at the Hungarian Audi plant are demanding hig
Salini Impregilo has no plans to leave the Višňové tunnel
Italian company Salini Impregilo has no plans to leave the Višňové tunnel but wants to agree on new terms with the state, according to sources of the HN daily. It is demanding €160m on top of the contractual price of €410m. If the state terminates its contract, it risks a much greater price increase, large delay, and the loss of EU funds. Salini Impregilo chce dokončiť tunel Višňové
Talianska firma Salini Impregilo neplánuje odísť zo stavby tunela Višňové a chce sa so štátom dohodnúť na nových podmienkach, tvrdia zdroje denníka HN. Požaduje 160 mil. € navyše nad zmluvnú cenu 410 mil. €. Ak by štát vypovedal zmluvu, hrozí mu oveľa väčšie navýšenie ceny, veľké meškanie a prepadnutie eurofondov. Salini Impregilo v súčasnosti neplatí dodávateľom, napr. firmám Skanska a Proma.
Výroba malých áut (VW Up!, Škoda Citygo a Seat Mii) beží naplno. SUV mali vlani 60% podiel na počte áut vyrobených v Bratislave. Dokedy bude výroba stáť, zatiaľ nie je známe. Zamestnanci v Maďarsku požadujú navýšenie platov zo súčasnej úrovne 1.300 € (v Bratislave priem

Slovakia slid three places to 57th in the corruption perception ranking
Slovakia slid three places to 57th in the latest corruption perception ranking by Transparency International, the worst result since 2013. Of EU countries, only Hungary and Balkan countries are worse off. The corruption perception was heightened by the murder of reporter Ján Kuciak that brought to light links of top politicians to Italian mafia and of the police to Slovak mafia, as well as the abuse of farming subsidies. Courts and the police are still unable to fight corrupt
