Salini Impregilo is leaving the Višňové tunnel
The national highway company NDS confirmed the information of the opposition party OĽaNO that Italian firm Salini Impregilo is laying off 160 workers from the building of the Višňové highway tunnel between Žilina and Martin. NDS is “concerned”, but can’t influence the move. OĽaNO alleges Salini Impregilo is leaving the project altogether, to minimize its losses. The tunnel might be delayed further. Dúha, which is building the tunnel in a consortium with the Italians, did not
Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák resigned, Fico to replace him
Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák resigned on Thursday in response to parliament’s rejection of the UN Compact on Migration. The motion to reject the Compact was approved by two of the three ruling parties, Smer and SNS, the Sme rodina opposition party, and the extremist party ĽSNS, without whose vote the motion wouldn’t have passed. Lajčák, who helped to formulate the Compact as head of the UN General Assembly, said SNS’ objections to it were “silly”. The coalition pa
Salini Impregilo opúšťa tunel Višňové
Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (NDS) potvrdila informácie opozičnej strany OĽaNO, že talianska firma Salini Impregilo prepúšťa 160 zamestnancov z projektu výstavby diaľničného tunela Višňové medzi Žilinou a Martinom. NDS je „znepokojená”, nevie však prepúšťanie ovplyvniť. Podľa OĽaNO Salini Impregilo projekt úplne opúšťa, aby minimalizovala straty. Tunelu tak hrozí ďalšie omeškanie. Dúha, ktorá tunel stavia spolu s Talianmi, včera situáciu nekomentovala. (teraz.sk)
Lajčák rezignoval, možno ho nahradí Fico
Minister zahraničia Miroslav Lajčák včera podal demisiu. Reagoval tak na uznesenie, ktorým včera slovenský parlament odmietol Pakt OSN o migrácii. Za uznesenie hlasovali dve z troch koaličných strán Smer a SNS, opozičná strana Sme rodina a extrémistická ĽSNS (bez hlasov ĽSNS by uznesenie neprešlo). Lajčák, ktorý ako šéf Valného zhromaždenia OSN pomáhal formulovať Pakt, označil výhrady SNS za hlúpe. Koaličná strana Most-Híd za uznesenie parlamentu nehlasovala a chcela, aby Laj

Slovakia was the least successful of all EU members in pushing through its proposals for the euro zo
Slovakia was the least successful of all EU members in pushing through its proposals for the euro zone’s future in 2010-15, according to a study by Swedish political scientists. They looked at 39 key reform proposals, such as the creation of bailout funds, economic management, and a banking union. The final result encompassed just half of Slovakia’s positions. Interestingly, both small and large countries were equally successful in pushing their proposals, and it was not the

Tourism vouchers are total nonsense and just political marketing, say labor unions
The €500 tourism vouchers mandatory for companies with over 50 workers are “total nonsense and just political marketing,“ thundered Milan Minarech, head of labor unions at the Trnava car plant of PSA. The vouchers will cost the plant €1m, money the plant could use to increase wages and bonuses. Minarech says vast majority of workers would prefer higher wages to the vouchers. Zoroslav Smolinský, head of VW Bratislava labor union, agrees that the vouchers will reduce wage growt
Kažimír to lead the central bank NBS
Central bank NBS governor Jozef Makúch announced he will step down in March 2019, despite his term running out in 2021. Makúch wants to allow the current parliament to choose his successor. He is concerned the 2020 general election will result in an unstable parliament full of new parties that won’t be able to agree on anything. The ruling coalition is set to elect Peter Kažimír, current finance minister, who yesterday announced plans to resign once parliament approves the 20
